Owner-Operator Getting Started

The Business Plan
The first thing you need to remember is to treat your business like it is a business, and you need a business plan. These How To Manuals from the Small Carrier University will be of enormous assistance.

Once you have a Business Plan you can move on to the Trucking Side of Things

  • NOW YOU CAN MOVE ON  TO THE TRUCKING SIDE OF THINGS
    OBTAINING AUTHORITY
  • INSURANCE
  • DECIDING WHERE YOU WANT TO RUN
  • WHO YOU WANT TO LEASE TO
  • DO YOU WANT TO LEASE TO A COMPANY OR GET YOUR OWN LOADS
  • WHERE TO GET LOADS
  • MAINTAINING YOUR TRUCK
  • FACTORING
  • HOW TO SAVE MONEY
  • WHERE AND HOW TO GET PERMITS
  • WHAT PERMITS ARE NEEDED

There is a lot more but these are some of the basic considerations that you need to look at.
Of course all these things are in addition to the knowledge you need just to be a Driver.

You will find the answers to many of these questions on this site on the Owner Operators pages.I don't profess to know all the answers, but I make it a little easier for you by putting the information all together.

Best of Luck in your New Venture
